Via LopezLink: Local government units (LGUs), cultural organizations and nongovernment organizations (NGOs) are invited to join the four-day National Workshop on Establishing Community Museums from September 17-20, 2013. The workshop is a project of the Zero In consortium of museums (Ateneo Art Gallery, Ayala Museum,Bahay Tsinoy, Lopez Memorial Museum and Museo Pambata) in cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and C8ultural Organizations (UNESCO) and supported by the Department of Education (Dep Advisory No. 327, s. 2013).
The workshop aims to provide the participants with knowledge on setting up local museums or reviving existing museums; share insightful lectures on museum management best practices as well as share ideas through participative, interactive hands-on exercises including an exposure trip to various museums.
The workshop topics are introduction to museums, collections management, exhibitions, marketing and promotions, fundraising and education.
All applications will be evaluated by a screening committee and only 100 participants will be accepted to the workshop. Interested LGUs, cultural institutions, and NGOs are encouraged to send a minimum of two (2) and a maximum of four (4) representatives. Deadline for submission of application is on August 15, 2013. The registration fee is P2,500 per participant which is inclusive of workshop kit, meals, and field trip.
The Zero In consortium was established in 2001 and has since then, focused on the strengths of the member museums in collections and programming to propose dynamic alternatives that promote institutional support and cooperation. It has embarked on numerous projects tackling parallel themes aimed at upholding and advocating each museum’s unique interpretation and execution of subject matter to engage more people to appreciate culture and arts as showcased by the museum members of Zero In. In its 12th year, Zero In continues to operate on this mandate with a workshop that will definitely strengthen museum appreciation in the country.
