Rizal Without the Overcoat: The Lopez Collection of Rizaliana. A lecture with Dr. Ambeth R. Ocampo on July 4, Saturday, 2 – 4PM
Lopez Museum and Library welcomes historian Ambeth Ocampo as he pieces together the image of Jose Rizal through library’s extensive Filipiniana collection with Rizal Without the Overcoat: The Lopez Collection of Rizaliana on July 4 Saturday, 2 to 4PM.
Dr. Ambeth Ocampo, in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of his bestselling work, “Rizal Without the Overcoat,” recounts his life-changing first visit to the Lopez Museum when he was a college freshman in 1980. Looking through the breadth of rare books, maps, and paintings by 19th century Filipino artists, he was also intimated with Rizal’s letters and correspondences, photographs, among others. Expect an afternoon filled with his witty narratives, unconventional anecdotes and a distinct perspective on Philippine history.
Dr. Ambeth Ocampo is a noted professor, columnist and was the Chair of the National Historical Institute, Manila Historical Commission and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). He has won multiple awards including Gawad Tanglaw’s Best Newspaper Columnist (2015) for his column “Looking Back.” He has won three National Book Awards in the categories: Essay, Bibliography, and Literary History. His other recognitions include the Order of Lakandula, Rank of Bayani in 2014, the Presidential Medal of Merit conferred in 2013, and the Gawad Balagtas Lifetime Achievement Award in Essay from the Writers Union of the Philippines in 2006. At present, he continues to write for his column for the Philippine Daily Inquirer and is an associate professor in the Ateneo de Manila.
Registration fee for the lecture is Php 135.00 for adults and Php 115.00 for students and members of the Museum Membership Program. Register now to reserve a seat.
