OPEN ENDS on August 22 | Opening Reception August 20

Lopez Museum and Library is gearing up for our second exhibition of the year, Open Ends. The new exhibition will highlight a collection of rarely seen studies, sketches, and unfinished paintings by Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo. These masterful renditions will be complimented by those of Juan Luna, unfinished correspondences captured in Jose Rizal’s careful handwriting and by beautifully bound and printed novenas or prayer booklets. Select sculptural and mixed media installations by guest artists Ling Quisumbing Ramilo, Toym Imao, and Riel Hilario will complete this provocation.

NOTE: The Lopez Museum & Library will be closed on August 21, a National Holiday.

In Open Ends, the works selected point to potential stages of artistic creation: to a seeming prologue of a story, experimentations in technique and even attempts at appeasing one’s curiosity. Challenging the usual practice of exhibiting an artist’s best and finished works, the exhibition explores how value and meaning evolve by looking and experiencing art that are products of opportune moments, happy accidents and even (un)timely interruptions.
